Cub Swanson given new deal by UFC

Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC’s Featherweight contender Cub Swanson has been given a new contract by the promotion, having put pen to paper on a new five fight contract ahead of his UFC 162 showdown against Dennis Siver on the 6th of July. Swanson has been in scintillating form over his last couple of fights and the new contract is the UFC’s way of saying they want to keep him at the promotion for the foreseeable future.

The 29 year old fighter recently announced the new via his official account on Twitter where he also gave details of the length of the contract. Swanson has a professional record of 19 wins and 5 losses in his professional Mixed Martial Arts contract and is currently ranked fifth in the Featherweight rankings of the UFC, and he will take on the sixth ranked Dennis Siver.

Their fight at UFC 162 is scheduled for the main card on the UFC 162: Silva v/s Weidman fight which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Having suffered defeat at the hands of his UFC debut against Ricardo Lamas, Swanson has emerged as a strong contender for the UFC Featherweight Championship since then, and he will hope to move another step closer to the title when he takes on Siver.

A win would move him within a single win, possibly, of landing a title shot and a rematch against the reigning UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo. And although it has become almost redundant piece of news on the part of the UFC, the fact that they decided to upgrade the contract of Swanson is a sure sign they view him as a contender for some time in the future and would want him to stick around long enough for it.
